The work behind the practice

The story does not stop at the storefront.

A streaming brand’s merchandise destination and an artist’s shoppable world call for more than a logo above a product grid. Here is how SDG approached each.

Entertainment · Merchandise · Global audiences

Netflix

A storefront that moves with the release calendar.

SDG built and launched Netflix.shop on Shopify Plus, pairing title-led storytelling with limited-edition collections, collaborations, and the foundation for international rollout.

Drake Related

An artist’s world, made shoppable.

SDG built Drake Related as an explorable recreation of The Embassy, connecting its immersive merchandise experience with exclusive drops and Shop-powered, geo-gated fan moments.

Beyond the storefront

Make the launch memorable. Make the operation repeatable.

Campaign deadlines, creative approvals, stock limits, and regional rights shape the brief. We design a system your team can run from one release to the next.

A world to explore, with a clear path to buy

Build title, artist, franchise, and collection experiences that connect editorial storytelling to product detail and checkout. Rich media earns its place without hiding basic buying information or slowing mobile shoppers.

Experience design

Release controls for time-sensitive drops

Define previews, embargoes, publishing permissions, time zones, inventory checks, and rollback plans. Load testing and monitoring cover the storefront and its dependencies, not just the platform carrying checkout.

Performance & launch readiness

Content and product approvals in one plan

Model franchise, talent, collection, market, and campaign relationships so content can be reused deliberately. Approval workflows and expiration dates reflect the rights your organization has already secured.

Contentstack & Shopify

An honest promise for limited and preorder stock

Make availability, purchase limits, release dates, and shipping expectations legible. We scope reservation, fraud, and access controls to the actual launch risk and test the handling of sold-out items and mixed carts.

Checkout engineering

Physical fan moments, connected to commerce

Plan event, venue, and QR-led shopping journeys with the appropriate Shopify tools and partners. Eligibility, location signals, consent, and access rules are validated for the activation; none is assumed to be universally available.

Custom commerce experiences

A global audience, deliberate regional rules

Connect localized content, approved assortments, currency, delivery, and fulfillment. Territory restrictions and licensing obligations must be translated into explicit operating rules, not left to a banner or a terms page.

Global & cross-border commerce
A practical way forward

The right starting point. A clear path to launch.

Bring the creative ambition and the release calendar. We will help turn both into a realistic scope and a launch plan.

How we work
  1. Define the audience, rights, and moment.

Map fan journeys, markets, product availability, creative approvals, launch dates, and the systems involved. Identify what must be ready before the campaign goes public.

  2. Rehearse the release, not just the happy path.

Build the experience and test scheduling, access, inventory depletion, checkout, and operational recovery. Give campaign owners a clear publishing and escalation process.

  3. Build a foundation for the next story.

Review discovery, checkout, fulfillment exceptions, and support demand. Reuse proven content and commerce patterns while keeping room for each release’s creative direction.

Good questions

Let’s get into the details.

Does SDG have experience in entertainment and fan commerce?

Yes. Our media and entertainment clients include Netflix, Drake Related, DraftKings, CAA, Apple, and Mattel. SDG built and launched Netflix.shop on Shopify Plus and built Drake Related’s immersive Shopify storefront. Those case studies describe the specific storytelling, merchandise, launch, and fan-experience scope for each engagement.

Can Shopify support limited-edition merchandise drops?

It can support that model, but the complete implementation still needs careful design. SDG validates storefront performance, inventory behavior, purchase limits, integrations, checkout, monitoring, and recovery against the requirements of the release.

Can you create a custom experience without making shopping confusing?

Yes. We design immersive or editorial experiences with accessible navigation, clear product information, and a direct path to checkout. A conventional collection path can sit alongside the creative experience where it helps shoppers.

Do you manage merchandise licenses or talent rights?

No. Your organization and its advisors own rights, licensing agreements, and legal approvals. SDG translates approved market, assortment, content, and timing requirements into the commerce experience and operational controls.

Is this practice also for toy and collectible brands?

There is overlap in fandom and limited releases. Our media practice focuses on entertainment, artists, and merchandise programs. Our toys and collectibles practice addresses multi-brand toy retail, collector journeys, and the product and content systems behind them.
